Dee Byrne is a saxophonist, composer and improviser based in
London. An active figure in the UK creative scene and beyond, Dee is involved
in various original jazz and improvising ensembles, notably her own quintet
Entropi, electronics duo, Deemer and Cath Roberts‘ large ensemble Favourite
Animals. She is establishing herself as a unique voice placing a value on
authenticity, communication and depth of sound.
Dee’s
quintet, ENTROPI, is a vehicle for exploring the relationship between freedom
and structure within the jazz/improvised music idiom. The definition of entropy
is: ‘lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.’ Through
her compositions, the ensemble navigates themes of space-gazing, life pondering
and risk-taking. Entropi releases its second album ‘Moment Frozen’ on Whirlwind
Recordings on 15th September with an accompanying UK tour throughout the
autumn. The album launch is on 29th September at Kings Place, London. Tickets
are available from the Kings Place website
Dee also runs LUME with Cath Roberts. LUME is a small
artist-run organisation with a focus on the creation of new original/improvised
music. Activities have included a double-bill tour in 2015, a monthly residency
at The Vortex and two festivals. Their offshoot record label Luminous releases
LUME related projects.
Dee is a PRSF Women Make Music artist – awarded
in 2016 for the recording & release of Entropi’s second album
