His band, the Redtenbacher’s Funkestra have just released their 8th record ‘Dr Hypenstein on Wooden Hat records.
The band has recorded and performed with funk/jazz legends such as Fred Wesley, Alfred ‘Pee Wee’ Ellis, (James Brown, Parliament), Lenny Pickett, Stephen ‘Doc’ Kupka’, Lee Thornburg (Tower Of Power), the horn sections of Prince, Incognito and The Brand New Heavies, Eric Krasno (Lettuce), Elliott Randall (Steely Dan), Chris Hunter(Manhattan Jazz & Gil Evans Orchestra), Rick Margitza (Miles Davis), Stanton Moore (Galactic), Andy Snitzer (Sting, Paul Simon) and perform on a regular basis in and around London, UK. Stefan is the principle composer and arranger for his band.
Stefan is a graduate of the Vienna Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, Chichester University and the Institute of Education.
He writes his own column ‘in session’ for the iBass Magazine and has written courses for DIME (Detroit Institute of Music Education), ICMP (Institute of Contemporary Music Performance) and ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music).
As educator, program leader and external examiner he has worked with RNCM (Royal Northern College of Music), LCCM (London Centre of Contemporary Music), MI London (Musician’s Institute), ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) and ATM (Access to Music) in London, Birmingham und Manchester.
He is the co-founder of KnowledgeRocks, a Music Education Technology company that combines sheet music and backing tracks into perfect practise units via their KR Player and KR Author apps. KR are working with publishers like Rockschool, Universal Edition, Schott, Faber Music, record labels like Naxos, magazines like iBass Magazine and Guitar Collector’s magazine as well as independent publishers, schools, music teachers and artists.
As a sidemen he has performed and recorded with artists such as Herb Alpert, Steve Winwood, Jack Bruce, Amy Winehouse, Lulu, Mica Paris, Paul Carrack, Kiki Dee, Tony Hatch, Gerry Beckley (America), Sandie Shaw, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Limahl, Alexandra Burke, Russell Watson, Joe and Sam Brown, Adam Ant, Ollie Murs and Danyl Johnson to name a few.
